HONDA UNLEASHES 1,300-HORSEPOWER HYBRID TROPHY TRUCK — AND BAJA DESERT RACING MAY NEVER BE THE SAME!
Honda Racing Corporation, Mason Motorsports, and Bryce Menzies Join Forces to Challenge the World's Toughest Desert Races with Revolutionary Hybrid Technology
SANTA CLARITA, CA — October 2026 — The future of desert racing has arrived, and Honda Racing Corporation USA (HRC US) is making a statement that could forever change the world of Unlimited Trophy Truck competition. Introducing the Honda Passport Baja Spec Trophy Truck, an extraordinary 1,300-plus-horsepower, all-wheel-drive hybrid racing machine engineered to challenge conventional thinking about what an off-road race truck can accomplish.
Developed by Honda Racing Corporation USA in partnership with renowned Trophy Truck manufacturer Mason Motorsports, the revolutionary vehicle combines technology from Formula 1, IndyCar, and IMSA sports car racing with the extreme demands of Baja desert competition.
And behind the wheel? None other than two-time Baja 1000 champion Bryce Menzies, one of the most accomplished competitors in modern desert racing.
1,300 HORSEPOWER. HYBRID TECHNOLOGY. UNLIMITED AMBITION
At the heart of this extraordinary machine is a 2.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 derived from the championship-winning Acura ARX-06 endurance race car, paired with an advanced 800-volt hybrid-electric system.
Together, the powertrain produces more than 1,300 horsepower, exceeding the output of the massive naturally aspirated 9-liter V8 engines traditionally associated with the sport's premier Trophy Trucks. But horsepower is only the beginning.
The Passport Baja Spec introduces an unprecedented level of electronic sophistication to the Trophy Truck category, including adaptive traction control, dual-axle brake-by-wire technology, and artificial-intelligence-assisted power deployment. The result is a race truck designed not simply to overpower the desert, but to intelligently manage performance across constantly changing terrain.
MASON MOTORSPORTS: ENGINEERING THE NEXT GENERATION OF TROPHY TRUCKS
Building a machine of this magnitude requires a chassis capable of handling extraordinary horsepower, punishing terrain, and the demands of high-speed desert racing.
Honda turned to Mason Motorsports, the Southern California manufacturer recognized for developing some of the most advanced Unlimited Trophy Trucks competing today. Using Mason's second-generation all-wheel-drive chassis as its foundation, engineers developed a specialized mid-engine configuration to accommodate Honda's sophisticated hybrid powertrain.
The truck features a unique driveline, portal gearing at the front hubs, and a five-speed Masomatic transmission designed to distribute power efficiently while maximizing ground clearance.
FOX Racing suspension, Toyo tires, and an advanced carbon-fiber aerodynamic body complete a package designed to deliver exceptional performance in the world's most demanding racing environments.
BRYCE MENZIES TAKES THE WHEEL
Few racers understand the demands of Baja better than Bryce Menzies. With two Baja 1000 victories and years of experience competing at the highest levels of desert racing, Menzies brings the experience and determination needed to develop and compete with this groundbreaking machine.
Working alongside HRC US and Mason Motorsports, Menzies Motorsports will play an important role in bringing Honda's ambitious project to the starting line. The objective is unmistakable: compete for the overall victory at the Baja 1000.
HONDA'S BAJA LEGACY COMES FULL CIRCLE
Honda's relationship with Baja stretches back more than six decades. In 1962, motorcycle pioneers Dave Ekins and Bill Robertson Jr. rode Honda CL72 motorcycles from Tijuana to La Paz in just 39 hours and 56 minutes, establishing a historic benchmark that helped inspire what would eventually become the Baja 1000. Since then, Honda has amassed an incredible 22 overall Baja 1000 motorcycle victories, establishing one of the most successful legacies in off-road racing history.
Now, Honda is preparing to write an entirely new chapter on four wheels. And the timing couldn't be more appropriate. The legendary Baja 1000 celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2027, giving Honda an extraordinary opportunity to connect its racing heritage with the future of off-road motorsports.
THE FUTURE OF TROPHY TRUCK RACING IS HERE
The Honda Passport Baja Spec is scheduled to make its first public appearance at the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, November 3–6, before making its planned competition debut at the 2027 Baja 500, June 2–6.
With more than 1,300 horsepower, groundbreaking hybrid technology, an advanced all-wheel-drive chassis, and one of desert racing's most accomplished drivers behind the wheel, Honda is entering the Trophy Truck arena with extraordinary ambition.
Whether hybrid technology ultimately becomes the future of Unlimited desert racing remains to be seen. But one thing is certain. Honda isn't entering the Trophy Truck category simply to participate. It's coming to challenge the established order.
And the desert racing world will be watching.
